The client wanted a true, dedicated home cinema — a dark, immersive space built purely for movies, with no compromises. The brief was clear: reference-level sound, cinematic visuals, tiered seating for perfect sightlines, and a finish that felt luxurious but timeless. Everything needed to disappear visually once the lights dimmed, leaving nothing but the film.
We designed a fully enclosed cinema room centred around a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos audio system, delivering enveloping surround sound with precise overhead effects and deep, controlled bass.
The room was acoustically treated throughout, with fabric-wrapped wall panels and careful speaker integration to control reflections and enhance clarity. Tiered seating platforms were constructed to ensure every seat enjoyed an unobstructed view of the screen, with subtle LED step lighting for safety and atmosphere.
For visuals, a JVC projection system was paired with a dedicated cinema screen to deliver high contrast, rich colour, and true big-screen impact. An Anthem AVR handles system processing, while a Kaleidescape movie server provides instant access to reference-quality content. Luxury cinema seating completes the space, offering comfort for long movie nights without distracting from the performance.
The finished cinema delivers a genuinely immersive experience that rivals high-end commercial theatres. Powerful yet controlled sound fills the room effortlessly, while the projection system creates a striking, cinematic image that draws you straight into the film.
Despite the technical performance on offer, the room feels calm, refined, and purpose-built — a space where the technology disappears and the experience takes over. Now handed over to the client, this Torquay home cinema is a perfect example of how a dedicated room, designed correctly from the ground up, can deliver unforgettable movie nights at home.
