The client wanted a dedicated media room within their barn conversion that could deliver a true cinema experience while also performing exceptionally for music. The space needed to feel powerful and immersive, but visually clean and in keeping with the character of the property.
With high ceilings, exposed brickwork, and a large open volume, the brief focused heavily on achieving reference-level sound performance without compromising the aesthetics of the room. The system had to be capable of filling the space effortlessly, with deep, controlled bass and precise detail at all listening levels.
We designed a bespoke media room centred around a THX Dominus-certified audio system, chosen specifically for larger, high-volume spaces where performance headroom is critical.
The installation features a Miller & Kreisel THX Dominus 5.3 loudspeaker and subwoofer system, paired with Lyngdorf processing and amplification to ensure absolute control, accuracy, and consistency across the room.
Given the architectural challenges of the space, extensive acoustic works were carried out, with treatments carefully integrated behind custom wall finishes. This allowed us to manage reflections, bass response, and overall clarity while keeping the technology visually discreet.
A particular challenge was the volume of hidden acoustic treatments required across both walls and ceilings. Achieving the desired performance meant incorporating significant absorption and control measures without compromising the visual intent of the interior.
Speaker placement, subwoofer positioning, and system calibration were all planned in detail to maximise immersion, delivering a seamless soundstage that works equally well for films, TV, and music.
The finished media room delivers a truly cinematic experience within a striking barn conversion setting. Powerful, dynamic sound fills the space with ease, while controlled acoustics ensure clarity, balance, and impact from every seat.
Despite the performance on offer, the room feels calm, refined, and uncluttered — with the technology disappearing into the design. Whether enjoying blockbuster movies or high-quality music playback, the client now has a space that feels special every time it’s used.
